Two surveys to make a need visible and help solutions move forward
These surveys play an important role: they make it possible to collect data and testimonies, to quantify, objectify and make visible what is sometimes treated as a “secondary issue”.
Yet the care of curly, coily and kinky hair among people of African descent, and the recognition of braiding practices, are linked to equal access, health, dignity and a profession mainly practised by women.
The results will help support the creation of recognised training and a more suitable hair care offer.
Survey 1: needs of people with curly, coily or kinky hair
Share your experience and hair care needs
Who is it for? For people with curly, coily or kinky hair.
Objectives:
- To better understand your experiences and needs regarding braids, care and hairstyles for curly, coily and kinky hair, in a salon or at home.
- To help build specialised training or a specialised school for curly, coily and kinky hair care in Belgium, based on people’s real experiences.
- To give strength to a project that ultimately aims to:
- offer clients better access to quality care adapted to curly, coily and kinky hair;
- enable hairdressers and hair braiders to have better working conditions: declared work, better income, paid leave, pension rights, including if the person later returns to live in another country.
Why is this important? A large number of responses will help us better understand real experiences and needs, and show that these issues concern a broad public.
🔒 Your answers are anonymous. At the end of the form, you will be offered the option to leave your first name, email address or phone number. You only need to do so if you wish.

Survey 2: interest in recognised professional training for curly, coily and kinky hair care
Who is it for? Anyone potentially interested in specialised professional training in curly, coily and kinky hair care: hair braiders, hairdressers, future learners, people retraining for a new career, and others.
Objectives:
- To better understand your needs, your plans and the conditions that would allow you to follow certifying training in curly, coily and kinky hair care in Belgium.
- To measure real interest in certifying training focused on curly, coily and kinky hair.
Why is this important? Because a school, a pathway or a curriculum is not created “for a minority”: it is created when demand has been demonstrated and when the skills to be taught have been clearly identified.
